Great way to review for the NYSTCE Visual Atst CST!

I recently passed the NYSTCE Visual Arts CST with only these flash cards as a review tool. I felt prepared, and I found the flashcards to be a really useful tool to remind myself about different artists, materials, and procedures that would be on the test.

PROS:
* You can review for the CST easily and efficiently with these cards. They are portable and easy to carry around in a rubber band.
* The information is more challenging than what you will find on the actual test, so when taking the test you will feel very prepared.
* Cards are organized with a heading, such as "Visual Arts Materials and Processes," "Aesthetic and Interdisciplinary Connections," etc. (The different areas on the test.)

CONS:
* The flashcards come in sheets and you have to punch them out yourself.
* The flashcards have small type and very dense, concentrated information on them.
* The information on the cards looks a little scary because it is so in-depth. Just keep this in mind as you use the cards as a review tool.
* Don't expect flashy or pretty cards with colors or images. These are just text-based cards. (Kind of a bummer for a test about VISUAL ART!)

Overall, this is a great way to review for the Visual Arts CST. A classmate of mine got the cards and the study book by the same company and found having the two materials to be redundant. I recommend getting one or the other (whether you prefer a book style or a flash card style approach).

Flash cards for certification test worked great

Teacher certification is very important and I wanted to get mine in visual arts. I learned a lot in my own classes and when I was looking forward to the test, I knew I would have to spit a lot of that information back out in the test. How I would remember it all, however, I was unsure. I found these flash cards and was so relieved that they had all of the information on them I needed to know. They were made for teachers who wanted to get certified in visual arts! Since that's me, I grabbed the cards right away and got to work. Better yet, they didn't cost much! But I would have paid a lot more for what they gave me. I really feel like they helped me not only pass the test, but have less nerves leading up to it. When I took the test, I was calm and collected because I knew I studied the right information hard with the help of the flash cards. The cards worked great and I think they are a wonderful addition to any study collection for other teachers who want to get certified in visual arts.

building community by organizing

Joan Minieri and Paul Getsos are community organizers. They built Community Voices Heard with low-income women. In this book they tell us how they did it -- the big ideas, the strategies, and the step-by-step actions. They chart how to recruit leadership, give advice about tracking members, urge us to take the time to reflect on our field work so we better understand what people tell us.
This 438 page book is not meant to be read or swollowed whole. At least I can't do that. I use a chapter or just a couple of pages with board, staff, and volunteers as a task guide. Or I hand it to an intern and say, "See if you can find some good advice for us in here."
If your group gets stuck sometimes, if you ever get stuck, this book has a lot of useful tools to get moving again.

Could be titled Organizing 101

As a retired labor organizer from a major union, I have never been able to recommend anything for folks to read except Saul Alinsky's, Rules for Radicals. Although I still think anyone interested should make this their first read, I strongly recommend Tools for Radical Democracy as their working text. It is thorough and has many "ready to go" forms for those who have never done community organizing.

Hats off to the authors...let's go organize!

I love the product because I am Hebrew by bloodline and the kjv 1611 w/apocrypha is the closest thing to undefiled Hebrew history in this age. Now Im trying to get my hands on a copy of Russian Icons by Vladimir Ivanov, but with a hefty price tag of about $1000, I will probably have to team up with my squad to purchase it.

Its funny how Esau/Amalek made the book just out of reach of the poor Israelites. Oh well.

The Kindle KJV BIBLE That I Had Searched For Is Finally Here!

The KJV Bible (Pure Cambridge Edition) is what I have been searching for! I tried other KJV Bibles on Amazon for Kindle, but they all lacked features that I wanted, and lacked the quick navigational ability to get right to a verse of The Bible.

This KJV Bible features a great Table Of Contents that quickly links to the book, chapter, and the verse that you desire! Great for looking up Bible Verses during a Church Service!

Also, after your Kindle has had some time to index The KJV Bible, you can do a search in the format of joh3.16 (John 3:16) or any book and verse Bible reference. See author's abbreviations for books in the Table Of Contents.

On my Kindle Paperwhite, I can also pull down the Old or New Testament from the "Go To" Contents menu, and quickly scroll down to find the book of The Bible that I desire to read. Also, you can touch any verse number, and it will take you back to the Chapter index for the book you are reading. Tap the Chapter Number to go to the Book Index, and from there you can select The Table Of Contents. Every Book and Chapter in The Bible has arrows (Left and Right) where you can go back to the previous Chapter or ahead to the next Chapter.

Overall, a very handy Bible reading tool. Thank God that there is finally a KJV Bible that now works on every Kindle device and all Kindle apps!

Alan Ball is for the stage what Wally Lamb isfor literature

Alan Ball's two act non-musical play, "Five Women wearing The Same Dress" is something that touches us all because in one way or another, we've all lived it. To begin, you already know Alan Ball becausse his television series "Six Feet Under" was known even to people who did not get HBO. (I watched it's entirety on DVD. Mr. Ball is today's Bernard Shaw; Today's Briajn Friel; Tenneseee williams; Today's Edward Albee; Tolday's promise that the American Theatre is not dead but thriving with brilliance, wamrth and truth.

What happens at a reunion? This tiopouc is well studied in film, theatre, teleivision and literature, but so much exists worth exploring in the convcept of looking back at one's life and seeing how it affected you that the subject is just as fresh as Kaufman & Hart's "Merrily We Roll Along", Sondheim's "Follies", "Is There Life After high School, "The Heidi Chronicles" and onward. In this case we have five bridesmaids who take turns escaping from the reception to one of the oppulent bedrooms upstairs. The five women have one thing in common: at one point they were all connected in some way to tracy, the bride whom we never see and whom is described as a Macy's day float in her dress. Their own dresses are typical hporrific dresses complete with hats. Each woman arrives with expectations, surprised to be a bridesmaid and very different from each other. By the end of the evening (the play runs just over two hours with an intermission) each of he women have a lot more in common than Tracy and have learned that perhaps they dpon't even have Tracy as a piece of unity. It is no accident that we never see her.

The dialogue- and monologues for you acting students - is fresh and honst; fast paced like an Aaron Sorkin or Joss Wheedon script, yet paces well. The play requires a middle southern dialect in varying degrees -always subtle- but not one of these women is stupid or a stereotype, though they may appear so as we meet them.

So whether you're looking to put on a play or somply enjoy reading them, Alan Ball's "Five Women Wearing The Same Dress" is remarkable. A hint of Henley's "Crimes Of The Heart" or "Steel Magnolias". A bit of Aaron Sorkin's "A Few Good Men," Ball writes fro women well and the only thing I noted was that, given the age of the play, to do it now one would have to doublke the proice of Meredith's Victoria Secret budget.

Scene for Acting Scene

I used this book for use in acting class for a specific scene with nice amounts of dialogue between two women. I like the idea of the book, and Ball's attempt to make the women sound and appear realistic and authentic, but it definitely fell short in some places. Worked well for class, though, as you really have to look into your objectives since all of these women have a lot of issues.

Mitji had lived with the Aboriginal tribe for as long as she could remember. Meg has barely started her journey towards her true origins. REPETITIOUS AND SELF-EFFACING TO THE UNINTENTIONAL POINT IF HILARITY. THE HEROINE
IS GOODIE-TWO-SHOES INCARNATE. HER BRAVERY, LOYALTY, INSIGHT, ETC. ARE JUST TOO
COOL TO BE BELIEVED. SHE SAVES EVERYTHING, AND EVERYBODY WITH INNATE INNOCENCE
AND MATTER-OF-FACTNESS LIKE THE PERILS OF PAULINE. IN SPITE OF ITS SILLINESS
I GOT A GOOD LAUGH OUT OF IT; AND THAT IS SOMETHING.
