About the Author
Dr. Carl Hart is an Associate Professor in both the Departments of Psychiatry and Psychology at Columbia University and is also a Research Scientist in the Division of Substance Abuse at the New York State Psychiatric Institute. A major focus of Dr. Hart’s research is to understand the complex interactions between neurobiological and environmental factors that mediate and modulate the actions of drugs of abuse, including drug-taking behaviour and cognitive performance. Dr. Hart’s research has been supported by the National Institute on Drug Abuse for the past several years. In addition to his substantial research responsibilities, Dr. Hart teaches an undergraduate Drugs and Behaviour course and was recently awarded Columbia University’s highest teaching award.

Charles Ksir received his bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and his Ph.D. from Indiana University in Bloomington. Following his postdoctoral training in Neurobiology at the Worcester Foundation in Massachusetts, he began a 34-year career in teaching and research at the University of Wyoming, where he also served in a variety of administrative positions. Now a professor emeritus, he focuses his efforts on teaching and textbook writing. He has taught the psychology course Drugs and Behaviour to more than three thousand students since 1972 and has received several teaching awards.

This is absolutely useless for any student who needs to use the book ...

I ordered this e textbook which was advertised as being one I could highlight. This in fact was NOT true. What you highlight in the text disappears and you then have to track down parts of what you highlights by going to amazon.kindle. com. This is absolutely useless for any student who needs to use the book for tests and exams. False advertising, but as I live overseas I have no option. Very disappointed and feeling duped!

I needed this book for my class and at first I assumed it would be about your typical drugs such as heroin and cocaine. However, it actually is very informative and talks about a variety of drugs and their types. I had no idea that tea, which contains caffeine, would be so thoroughly discussed. The author even does a great job of going into the history of each substance and the chemical structures. Overall it has been a great semester using this book and I want to go back and read the chapters we didn't cover because I find this topic extremely interesting.

Offers Some Utility but not Critical

The utility of this book is up for debate I would say. I just took my GMAT today and while this book was ultimately helpful for some questions I found that I was not 'stumped' by the OG's answer explanations very often. I had to turn to this book probably 5-10 times because of questions whose answers just didn't make sense. If you are using Manhattan GMAT's full strategy guides, this book is helpful because it approaches the questions from the MGMAT perspective (i.e. sometimes the OG will answer questions in a different style from what MGMAT taught you -- it was helpful those few times to turn to this book and ask "how would you solve it MGMAT?"). Buy this if you hate the OG's quantitative explanations

This book is a must if you're doing practice questions from the Official Guide while simultaneously studying the Manhattan GMAT quantitative strategy guides. This book provides explanations to the OG problems using the Manhattan GMAT approach from the strategy guides. These explanations helped me understand some of the tougher problems way better than the god-awful explanations in the OG. Seriously, the explanations in the OG are nothing short of terrible and vague at best. This book will eliminate the need for you to frustrate yourself trying to understand the OG's explanations.

Invaluable

This was the most useful product I used during my GMAT prep once I had gone through all of the MGMAT books. This book gets little mention on MBA sites but it is invaluable as it provides different ways to solve the OG than just the OG approach and you can figure out which method is more intuitive. I was able to hit well above that 700 mark thankfully and made it into a top 15 business school.

YES! Just what we need.

I have been an avid amazon user/reader for years, and this is only my second review. I met Mr. Albert at a conference this winter. I hadn't heard his name before the conference. I attended 3 or 4 of his talks that week. I loved to hear him speak. The context and conveyance grabbed me and kept me captivated and wanting to learn more. I can't really point out the best topics of this book, because there are too many to cover. He tells the raw truth about schools, learning, and life. Reading this book is very much like hearing him speak. Yes, it is a book/writing style that is sort of all over the place, but that's the wonderful thing- its like having a conversation, and listening to his magical storytelling. My only regret is not posting a review sooner. I was surprised to see there have been no reviews until mine. Since meeting Mr. Albert this past February, I can attest my life and the quality of my family life has changed for the better. The author is a great man, with great stories, and great ideas that make you feel great, and inspired! This book will surely be lent out to friends, then shelved next to Holt and Gatto to refer to often for reassurance and inspiration.

Trenchant, Wise, and Inspiring

David Albert will certainly go down as one of a handful of early homeschooling pioneers in America. His books - and I've read ALL of them - keep getting better and better. I would say that "Dismantling the Inner School" will go down as his magnum opus....but I fully expect him to bless us with a few more!

Great non-conformist book

I love David Albert, and was thrilled to find this book. He goes more into the whys of unschooling in this one, and explains why schooling is bad for all of society. It's a great boost for going against the grain.

Great reminder to be about the Lord's business & not focus on finding a man!

I really enjoyed reading a "real" Christian book on being single while waiting for my husband to find me. The book is a great reminder to stay busy for the Lord vs searching or being overly concerned with finding a husband. I loved the "personal confessions" and "man facts." I cannot even tell you how many pages I bookmarked (I have the Kindle Edition). I enjoyed the book so much that I purchased the paperback edition for my sister. I am also thinking of getting one for my 20-year-old niece.

The references to the book of Ruth were really on point! So many times Christian books don't provide a reference point and I end up feeling like I'm just reading someone opinion. As the book points out - it what God says that matters. There were some parts of the book that stepped on my toes, which was a good thing. It really made me think about my past relationships (marriage) and I was able to "see" where I was out of God's will and just doing what I wanted to do, even though I was saying and thinking I was in God's will.

Read this book with an open heart and allow it to minister to you. You will see yourself, your friends, and your relatives relationships in this book. So much biblical food for thought.

Worth The Read

This book is totally worth the read. I encourage single women, dating women, and even married women to read this! It really puts into perspective the role we as women must take for our husbands. No matter what stage of life you are in, you can get something from this book! Just be ready to really be tested and changed. If you read it with open eyes and an open heart you will be drastically changed in your walk with God and who you are as a daughter of The King!
