Jaz's Warriors (Bondmates Book 2), by Ann Mayburn

This novella can be read as a standalone, but for the most enjoyment of the series it should be read in order.

Growing up in Harlem, Jaz Brooks never imagined that there would be a day where she'd have two smoking hot alien husbands, Mavet and Xentix, who worshiped her. Or that she would be living on a Kadothian spaceship stationed on one of Saturn's moons as an Earth Ambassador. And she certainly never imagined her bondmates would be encouraging her to take a third husband, but that's exactly what's happening.

Tandar Glycin has been fighting the Hive in the distant Bel'Tan galaxy for so long now he'd given up hope of ever finding his Matriarch. When word reaches him that his blood brother, Mavet, has bonded an Earth female Tandar is both elated and worried. Vicious rumors abound in the Bel'Tan galaxy about how horrible Earth women are and he worries that Mavet has taken a monster as his wife. When he first meets Jaz he quickly realizes that not all of the stories are true, and that the Lord of Life has blessed him with a kind, beautiful, and feisty alyah who is going to make him work to win her heart.

Warning- This story is set in the Bel'Tan galaxy where polyamorous relationships are the norm and love in all of its forms is accepted including M/M, M/M/F, M/M/M/F sexual situations hot enough to melt your panties.

Jaz Warrior's
By Daniel Bowen
I read Casey's Warriors (Bondmates) ages ago. . . Enjoyed it enough to look up the author's web page and bookmark that . . . Then checked back from time to time to see if another story was out. Eventually Jaz's Warriors, this story, was listed on Amazon and yes I pre-ordered it. That's how invested I was in seeing where this series goes. The long wait was well rewarded.

Jaz was raised in Harlem, daughter of a preacher, and has close family ties - Very close since they all live next to each other. But in a time of crisis that back up is what made her into who she is: A strong woman, one that has compassion in helping others, and a strong voice in times of crisis. She is a licensed therapist in helping couples with marital problems. Of course her career path helps pave the way when aliens take over earth.

There is less written on Jaz's two husbands Mavet and Xentix. The story revolves around them adding a third husband, Tandar. Just the bare minimum is listed on Tandar - That he is a war hero, a leader and in charge of his own ship, honorable, and of course handsome. He is the blood brother to Mavet and is meeting up with his old friend as well as meet this Earthling woman, Matriarch Jaz. The story focuses on cultural issues both from Earth's perspective and Kadothian. There's a few incidents to see how the two races are intermingling. There are political moves at play and things aren't always as they seem. This was a nice alien / earthling space opera type with mnages as the norm. Everything is consensual, no bondage, and Jaz isn't the main focus of the guys - The guys get it on with each other, too. It's an equal opportunity mnage.

I was disappointed Casey didn't pop in. I realize they probably don't know each other but you'd think as the series continues there'd be a way to catch up with main characters. I was also curious to see if husband and wife pairs on earth are considering a warrior or two to their mix or if these pairings are only an Earth female with Kadothian guys. I was especially wondering what happened to Raul and Christie, the couple in the beginning of the story. Will most of the family groups settle in the Bel'Tan galaxy or will they settle on earth? Will they be able to have kids? - Dan's Wife

That evil mother-in-law is something every race has. !!

Review Jaz's Warriors by Ann Mayburn
This book took hot to a whole new meaning! I wanted more!
This is a new author to me and this is the second book in the series. However, I didn’t feel lost or confused by starting here. The author does a great job of explaining the world and its rules to the reader. This gives the story depth.
Jaz is new to the matriarch role and the rules that come with it. Her Alien husbands love and protect her at every turn. You can feel their love and passion for her leap off the pages. Jaz is to meet her husbands’ Blood Brother; this is a male that is genetic and spiritual make up to share the same Matriarch or Wife. From the moment Jaz meets him things go from bad to worst. However, everything rights itself but the end of the story.
I really liked this story and how the lovers came together and cared for each other. The conflicted in the story make things a little hard for the couple to get to know each other but make for a great sex scenes.
Overall, this is a fast paced read that will have you crossing and uncrossing your legs throughout the tale. The plot is great and different. I give this story 5 stars and I recommend you grab it up!
*** I was given this book for an honest review. This plays no part in how I felt about this book.***

Underwhelmed
By Romance Novels in Color
Jaz’s Warriors is my first introduction to Ms. Mayburn’s writing. I’m not much into Sci-Fi/Fantasy but you give me a good blurb and toss in some menage action, and I will read it! When I saw this book would include M/M, M/M/F, M/M/M/F sexual situations I WAS LIKE YAAAASSSSS! Deep otherworldly sexin’? YASSSSSSSS! If you’re a fan of alien men taking on human brides for bonding, this story will be right up your alley!

Let me start by saying I’m not fond of books that begin with a glossary of terms. If one is present, authors I beg of you, please put it at the end of the book. Allow the reader to become immersed in your world. If I find myself confused, I will look to the glossary when my reading journey has ended. This is simply a personal preference. I suppose I like the element of surprise and not having everything laid out for me.

The book begins with a prologue called “The Event” where a weird rainbow of colors illuminates the sky. Jasmin “Jaz” Brooks, who is a therapist, is in the middle of a counseling session with a couple when the weirdness begins. There’s mass hysteria and panic in the streets, and people decide to seek shelter in her building. The prologue IMO was rushed. I felt that some aspects could have been fleshed out a bit more. We don’t know much about what happened during “The Event.” The reader is told what it may have been in the first chapter, but it’s not detailed at all. What we do get in the prologue is a sneak peek of Jaz’s future while she’s dreaming. This… this is where problems first started to arise for me.

The description of one of her potential mates:

“The first man had creamy golden skin, with slanted eyes and long dark hair that gave him a slightly Asian look.”

What? Slanted eyes? REALLY? This is a fail. So much fail. Could there have been a better way to describe the physical characteristics of this character? Absolutely. Especially, when the second potential mate is described as such:

“The second also had long black hair, but his skin was pale and his eyes a lovely light blue.”

Sigh. I can’t agree with the wording choices here. Ms. Mayburn has a publisher. I find it surprising that the editor didn’t pick up on the coded language.

Anyway back to the story. Fast forward to present day and Jaz is on an alien ship with two of her husbands. Her job on earth as a therapist has assisted her in her new role as an Ambassador. Polyamory is big with Kadothian men. One of Jaz’s husbands is interested in her taking on another to join their family and Tandar is introduced. Much of the story centers around Tandar’s attempts to court Jaz and her dealing with her feelings about her new life and her new role. Of course, there is conflict, but it’s minimal.

I will say overall; I enjoyed the story; however, I didn’t find the harping on the “otherness” appealing.

“Rich brown skin and exotic features…”

Ugh.

I tried to look past it because to some degree it is Sci-Fi/Fantasy and Jasmin is a human female but good grief it was overkill. I was expecting more freakiness with the sex scenes, but they were okay. Some readers will enjoy the fact that Jaz is plus-size, and her husbands find her delectable. Kudos to Ms. Mayburn for the depiction of a curvy heroine.

Lastly, I didn’t conclude this story feeling satisfied. My Kindle stopped around the 70% mark. The remainder of the book is the first few chapters of the next story in the series. Personally, I’m not a fan of this marketing tactic. Give me 100% story and then sell the heck out of your other books.

Overall, I give this story three stars. It had potential, and some parts were great, but other aspects rubbed me the wrong way.
