Terrible book. It's more of a homework assignment from a 14 year old non-english-speaker, than an actual user guide.

Book has a huge amount of grammar errors as well as typos. Furthermore, the book gives you false information (says arduino is a replacement of raspberry pi), and does not bother explaining things that are not self-explanatory. I'm not a beginner at raspberry pi but neither am I an expert.I read this because I always like reading new material in case I left something out. Another reason I read this is to see what kind of information it had on the arduino. I'm glad I didn't have to pay for this book. It was still a waste of my time

✔ Excellent Guide to Getting Started!

I am familiar with the Pi, but more so with the Arduino. We use Arduinos to make sophisticated "geocaches" in the SF bay area. I am considering learning the Raspberry Pi, and this book is really helpful.
▲ Appreciate all the links provided, so that I can easily download the programs I need.
▲ Helpful photos throughout illustrating the parts.
▲ I did not know there were two different models/prices. Appreciated the author getting that clear right up front. There is a detailed chart showing the major differences, and again, excellent photos.
▲ For the beginner, it's important to understand that you need to load in all programs--it's not "ready to go." In chapter 5, the author explains the suggested OS, Raspian "wheezy," which is best for beginners. All this OS business strikes me, a novice, as more troublesome than the Arduino.
▲ Good discussion about all the peripherals/power supplies, etc. that are needed to get the show on the road.
▲ Very creative example of using the Pi as an FM transmitter. Had no idea that you could do that so simply.
▲ Extensive discussion and example of how to use the Pi as a "Standard productivity computer." This struck me as incredibly unlikely; I suspect the author just includes this as a hobbyist novelty--not a real suggestion.
This is an excellent choice for a beginner--probably not so much for others, but again, that's what the title says.
✔ All in all, a really excellent guide for beginners. I found it very informative and encouraging. Recommend!

This well organized book gives a good introduction to Raspberry Pi and Arduino. From reading it, you gained general knowledge and knew where to find futher information.
